The working environment you can expect: This position is located within DOT&PF Headquarters in Juneau, at the DOT&PF 3-mile building on Channel Drive, in a comfortable office environment. As an Accounting Technician 1, you will be part of a six person administrative support team who works collaboratively and independently to support 75 positions. The incumbent will provide outstanding customer service to a wide variety of people in a professional and friendly manner. In addition, we offer paid state holidays—a total of 11 throughout the year.What you will be doing: Under the direction of the Administrative Officer II, the Accounting Technician I is responsible for performing general accounting duties such as processing invoices, tracking payments, P-Card management, third-party billings, and other tasks as assigned. The incumbent provides daily assistance to division employees on administrative and accounting questions. Responsibilities include ensuring all payables are valid, have proper approvals, financial coding and supporting documentation prior to reconciliation and submittal; submitting requisitions in the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS), and submitting invoices and reimbursements through the State’s accounts payable portal. You will perform and complete special projects requiring research and compilation of data and information on a variety of topics. Occasionally, you may serve as backup to the travel planner.Who we are looking for: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of: Possesses a working knowledge of the state accounting and procurement system (IRIS FIN), the Alaska Data Enterprise Reporting (ALDER) System or equivalent accounting software systems as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and complete routine duties as well as special requests, including tracking payments and processing invoices, researching and identifying errors, and taking corrective action as necessary to comply with established rules and policies.Excellent time management skills- prioritize tasks and independently manage competing deadlines. Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment to completing assignments in a timely manner, work with minimal supervision, and be motivated to achieve. High attention to detail- must be thorough when performing work, able to analyze details, spot errors, and double check your work. Reading comprehension and writing skills- must be able to read a variety of documents, manuals, rules, regulations, reports, emails, etc., and analyze information in order to identify changes, inform decisions, and provide guidance to division staff. Must be able to explain complex policies and procedures to staff in a clear and concise manner using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations. Substitutions: Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
