Job Description
Develop and deliver/instruct group exercise classes while maintaining safety of participants at all fitness levels. This is a contracted position with the City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department and funded through a grant by the Public Health Department.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, an employee must be able to perform the following: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, talking, hearing/listening and repetitive motion. Heavy Work: Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly. Work Environment: Indoor climate-controlled environment and outdoor environment. Threshold promotes and maintains a drug-free work environment. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Be able to demonstrate all levels of low and high intensity exercises
Must stay current in CPR, AED, and First Aid, renewed annually
Ability to lead and motivate others
Ability to demonstrate the skills specific to the class and have knowledge of muscle groups and body mechanics
Must provide fitness lesson plans for each class at every level
Attend staff meetings as designated by your supervisor
Maintain current certifications
Record class attendance on designated form
Enforce safe standards, procedures, and guidelines according to City of Amarillo procedures
Secure a substitute instructor when unable to teach scheduled class, remind substitute at least 24 hours in advance, and notify supervisor of change
Maintain accurate incident/accident reports
Positively support the City of Amarillo’s Parks and Recreation Department and its mission
Provide adequate notice to supervisor when vacating scheduled class
Demonstrate and teach these attributes of personal character: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
Maintain a good rapport with fitness program participants to respond to their needs
Encourage member involvement and identify potential volunteers
Educate participants on proper form, contraindicated exercises, and modifications of moves
Increase participant’s awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors
Report equipment in need of repair
Develop positive relationships with members and provide motivational support and guidance
Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with staff, members, and volunteers
Connect and reconnect with clients to encourage continued class attendance and support students’ growth
Educate students on correct technique while providing modifications for posture during their fitness session and as appropriate for their success and capacity, this includes modifying specific exercises to accommodate the various skill levels in the gym
Licenses/Certification
A valid Texas Driver’s License in required. Must be CPR, First Aid and AED certified within thirty (30) days of hire date.

Must be certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid. (or we can give them this option **Within 6 months of hire date ? CPR, AED, and First Aid)
Must be at least 18 years of age
High School education or equivalent preferred
6 months or 60 hours of practical experience of group exercise class experience
