The Parent Educator provides home visiting services to families with young children that have been involved with alleged child abuse and neglect or child abuse and neglect through Child Welfare Services to improve maternal and child health, child health and safety and child development knowledge. This position communicates with family members, internal team members, service providers and community partners. This position is under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor.
What you will be doing:

Behaves in a manner that supports the agency’s mission and follows personnel policies and procedures.
Conducts home visiting services to low to high-risk families with young children, ages 0-3 in a manner consistent with standards and guidelines established by funders, state law and policies and procedures of the agency and in a manner that will improve the self-confidence of caregivers. In partnership with families, curriculum materials are used to promote positive parent and child interaction and parenting, increase child development knowledge, promote family’s interaction with the community and improve health-seeking behaviors. Monitors the quality of services to all families, including the implementation of the team approach.
In partnership with the family and the team, develops a meaningful Family Service Plan (FSP) that addresses risk factors and maternal child health and safety.
Administers developmental screens and assessments such as the ASQ, ASQ-SE, hearing, and vision screen, along with parenting assessment, such as the AAPI.
Completes clear, concise, and non-judgmental written and electronic documentation, such as initial assessments, monthly updates, and closing reports, and ensuring that all paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
Provides linkage to community resources and follow-up with support services as needed, teaching families to identify and access resources throughout the process.
Conducts creative outreach activities designed to engage hard-to-reach families, in a consistent, yet respectful manner.
Maintains effective working relationships with referral source, Child Welfare Services (CWS) community partners, state agencies, funders, and other appropriate providers of home visitation services.

Required Education / Training:

High School Diploma or equivalent required plus two (2) years previous supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology, or a related field highly desired.

Other:

Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license.
Has daily access to an automobile.
Possesses and maintains proof of no-fault insurance.
Can obtain an acceptable pre-hire driver’s abstract and annually thereafter.
